Very elongate body. No cirri. Males with tall spiny dorsal fin.
Colour high variable, pale brown to yellow to green. Dashed brown line from eye to caudal fin base. Upper body with faint white stripes. Belly white and upper body darker.
Males: dorsal fin pigmented to match body colours and patterns. Curved mark at front of dorsal fin which is a mix of red on top, leading to white and then a black blotch - does not resemble a true ocellus.
Reaches 12.3 cm.
Found in worm tubes in seagrass beds with fine sediment and in sandy bottoms mixed with rubble and shells.
