Species infomation

Distinctive features:

  1. Black stripes on rear cheek.
  2. Orange/red horizontal stripes on dorsal fin.
  3. Females with white and red wavy lines on lower head.
  4. Pair of 2 heavily branched orbital cirri.
  5. Sometimes with a pupil-sized blotch on front dorsal fin.

Physical description:

Branched nasal cirri. Pair of 2 orbital cirri which are heavily branched.

Colouration:

Pectoral fin base with 2 red oval blotches. First 2/3 dorsal fin with slightly slanted horizontal stripes - colour matches body.
Males: brown with orange spots along body and sometime red ones on midflank. Rear cheek with bright red jagged stripes and spots.
Females: deep orange or red which gets darker towards the caudal base. Typically no spots along body. Lower head and throat with wavy lines of alternating red and white in a peppermint-candy-like pattern.

Size:

Reaches 6.7 cm.

Habitat:

Found on rocky substrate.
