Distinctive features:

  1. 9 orbital cirri in 3.
  2. Slanted light-brown/black bands along body.
  3. Reddish head.
  4. White stripe behind eye, can be faint.
  5. Dorsal fin clear, no ocellus/blotch.

Physical description:

Branched nasal cirri. 9 orbital cirri over each eye, assembled in 3 rows. 2 cirri on neck base.

Colouration:

Head can be red, ruddy brown or dark-brown/black. Lower head can be lighter. Head can have white spots. White stripe behind eye, can seem faint or blend in with lighter lower head. Body white with slanted thick black bands and a large black blotch on caudal base. Fins clear. Dorsal, anal and caudal fin spines and rays reddish-orange.

Size:

Reaches 7.0 cm.

Habitat:

Found on rocky reefs.
