Distinctive features:

  1. 3 orbital cirri, first very long with branches only at top, following significantly shorter.
  2. Front dorsal fin with large ocellus.
  3. Anal fin entirely red/yellow.

Physical description:

Branched nasal cirri. Pair of 3 orbital cirri. Frist orbital cirrus is long with branches exclusively at the top. Following cirri become short and are only lightly branched.

Colouration:

Light to dark brown. Pale lower head which can seem to be a pale stripe behind the eye. Head speckled with white. Patterns vary, can be plain. Patterned individuals often with a darker midlfank, a slightly lighter upper body and a pale lower body. Dark vertical stripes span upper to lower body. Base of pectoral fin pale brown. Ocellus on dorsal fin between spines I-II. Anal fin red/yellow with short white blotches on base. Base of caudal fin with a black blotch with light brown above and below.
