Species infomation

Distinctive features:

  1. Yellow inner ring in dark iris.
  2. Blue-white spotting on head.
  3. Front of dorsal yellow-orange with a black base.

Physical description:

One pair of nasal and orbital cirri. Orbital cirri unbranched and nasal cirrus branched.

Colouration:

Greyish green and occasionally with blue hues. Iris dark with a yellow inner ring. White chin. Dark blotches on cheek behind eye, on opercle edge and on top of the head. 2 rows of black blotches along midflank and top of body. Front of dorsal fin yellow to orange with black running along the base, females only have initial 2 spines with black.

Size:

Reaches 6.0 cm.

Habitat:

Found in empty worm tubes and barnacles on rocky reefs.
