Species infomation

Distinctive features:

  1. Red on lower jaw.
  2. Blue-white spotting on head.
  3. Dark blotch behind eye.
  4. Black ocellus at front of dorsal fin.

Physical description:

One pair of nasal and orbital cirri.

Colouration:

Greyish green and occasionally with blue hues. Iris dark with a yellow inner ring. White chin and red on the lower jaw. Dark blotch behind eye, back of the cheek and top of head. 2 rows of ~7 dark blotch along midflank and base of the dorsal fin. Orange blotch at base of pectoral fin. Front of dorsal finr red with a black base and a black ocellus between spines I and II. This black ocellus sometimes blends into the black base to form a continuous pattern.

Size:

Reaches 6.0 cm.

Habitat:

Found in empty worm tubes and barnacles on rocky reefs.
