Distinctive features:

  1. Yellow chin.

Physical description:

One pair of nasal and orbital cirri. Orbital cirri either unbranched, or with 1 deep branch.

Colouration:

colour highly variable, ranges from red to orange. Series of brown or red bars along the top and bottom of the body. White dashes along the vertebral column. Lower jaw red with a yellow chin. Iris dark with a light yellow inner ring. White blotch behind eye. Bright blue spots on head vary in size and number, can be small and frequent or large and infrequent.
Mating males: Entirely black except for red and yellow on lower jaw and white spot behind the eye.

Size:

Reaches 4.0 cm.

Habitat:

Found in empty worm tubes and barnacles on rocky reefs.

Notes:

Endemic to the Revillagigedo islands.
