Species infomation

Distinctive features:

  1. Red iris with a blue/white inner ring.
  2. White cheek stripe.
  3. Front of dorsal with a white-bordered dark blotch.

Physical description:

One pair of nasal and orbital cirri. Orbital cirri unbranched. Nasal cirrus lightly branched.

Colouration:

Brown with a greenish hue on the upper sides. Lips and snout pale and a white stripe on the cheek to opercle edge. Small blueish-white spots on the head and front of the body. Iris red with blue/white inner ring. Large white blotch at base of pectoral fin. 2 rows of white blotches along midflank and top of body. 3 rows of brown blotches along midflank just above white row, inbetween white blotches on upper body and along the lower body. Front of dorsal fin black with a white border.

Size:

Reaches 3.5 cm.

Habitat:

Found in abandonded worm tubes in muddy rock and live coral.
