Very elongate body. No cirri.
Light brown to dark brown with a pale belly and throat. ~9 dark bars from top of body to midflank - can appear fainter in males. Orange-red iris striped with blue-black. 2 small black dots immediately behind eye. 2 rows of blotches on head, one from eye to opercle edge and the other just below Small brown dots on head. Blue-black branchiostegal membranes. Front of dorsal fin light brown.
Females: front of dorsal fin with bluish-black ocellus surrounded by a white ring.
Males: no ocellus on dorsal fin.
Reaches 11.0 cm.
Found in worm tubes and on bottoms with broken rubble near reefs.
C. deltarrhis has a notch separating the head and neck. C. celeste has an orange iris with brown bands, while the iris of C. deltarrhis has a white blotch on the bottom. Female C. celeste have a white-bordered ocellus on the dorsal fin, while C. deltarrhis females only have a black blotch. Male C. deltarrhis have brown marbling on the upper body and head.
