Distinctive features:

  1. Orbital cirri yellow with brown stripes.

  3. Black dorsal fin with yellow triangular base.
  4. White horseshoe mark below eye.

Physical description:

Simple nasal and orbital cirri. Orbital cirri long and thick.

Colouration:

Males: front black fading to grey and then to yellow posteriorly. Head and front lower body with faint white spots. White diagonal horseshoe mark under eye. Upper head grey-brown. Upper body with grey-brown blotches. Iris red. Orbital cirri yellowish with brown stripes. Dorsal fin black with a trianglular yellow blotch at front. First dorsal spine with white stripes.
Females: spotted brown front fading to grey at rear.

Size:

Reaches 5.0 cm.

Habitat:

Found in rubble near reefs.
