Species infomation

Distinctive features:

  1. 2 bushy cirri over each eye.
  2. Head either heavily speckled with white or is a solid orange.
  3. Front of dorsal fin often with a black blotch.

Physical description:

Nasal cirri bushy. 2 orbital cirri which are heavily branched and bushy over each eye.

Colouration:

Colour highly variable, ranges from light to dark brown or can be orange. Head and body heavily speckled. Often a broad white band leading from eye to lower jaw. Large dark blotches along midflank. Light blotches along upper side separated by darker ones. Orange individuals can be patternless. Often a black blotch between 2-3 dorsal spines but this can be absent.

Size:

Reaches 4.5 cm.

Habitat:

Found in empty barnacles and holes on rocky reefs.
