Females and juveniles: largely transparent. Red vertebral column with white dashes. Pink/blue cranial pattern Y-shaped with a dot in the centre. Lower head, jaw and pectoral fin base with black blotches.
Breeding males: black head, front of body and dorsal fin. Iris black. Sometimes with blue spots on rear head and front body but not always. Upper edge of front dorsal fin white.
Reaches 3.0 cm.
Found on reefs. Breeding males found in holes.
